The main reason BuddyGuard exists
Motivated by the need to ensure good care for Winner while we travelled, in 2020 we looked for alternatives to pet hotels. A quick search showed us that, until then, there was no similar type of service in Bulgaria.
Winner firmly decided that this had to change — and that we should quickly find a sitter to walk him and spoil him with treats… So, pressured by the boss, we said to ourselves: "Why not?"
We warmly embraced his idea, and so in the summer of 2020, in Sofia, the first company for professional pet sitters in Bulgaria was founded — BuddyGuard!
The BuddyGuard Platform
Years of experience have brought us together with more than 1,500 pets and their owners! We've had the joy of countless wet noses, wagging tails, and purring faces! To be useful to more people, we decided to build a platform that lets pet owners across the country benefit from trained, caring sitters. Our sitters are people with free time who choose to spend it in the company of the creatures they love most — animals! 2020
The idea is born
Kristina Vodenicharova can't find a reliable sitter for her dog before heading to the seaside. Instead of giving up — she creates BuddyGuard. Launches with a website and a Facebook page, no ads, just word of mouth.
2021
The team grows
Kostadin Mihaylov applies for a sitter position. The interview lasts 4 hours and ends with an invitation to become a co-founder. The two invest in company cars, an office in the Darvenitsa neighbourhood, and start building a standard of care.
2023
The platform automates
BuddyGuard transforms from a manually managed service into a fully-fledged online platform. Over 1,500 regular clients in Sofia alone. A private investor contributes 40,000 BGN towards mobile app development.
2024
Recognition and growth
BuddyGuard is named the best youth startup in Bulgaria for 2024. Revenue reaches 80,000 EUR. The platform now operates nationwide with 500+ verified sitters.
2026
An international step
BuddyGuard takes its first step outside Bulgaria and begins caring for pets in Malta.
